Special Olympics UAE

Our mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. We provide opportunities to develop physical fitness, social skills, and participation among other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

The Special Olympics movement began in the UAE in the early 1990s as a committee under of the People of Disabilities Sports Union, where hundreds of athletes trained and various local and regional competitions were hosted. In 2017, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, announced his directive to re-establish Special Olympics UAE as an independent association endorsed by the Ministry of Community Development.
